WHY WESTMINSTER SAYS NO

Westminster says No to a referendum because of law. They say No to independence because of survival.

REASON 1: MONEY - 90% OF THE OIL

Westminster has taken more than £300 billion in tax from North Sea oil since the 1970s. Up to £1.5 trillion worth still lies under Scottish waters. 90% of UK oil reserves lie in Scotland's waters. In 2023-24, 80% of North Sea revenue came from Scottish waters. Scotland's oil industry is 56% of the UK oil economy - £14bn of £25bn.

Without Scotland, UK becomes an energy importer. It loses energy security, it loses trade balance, it loses tax base.

REASON 2: NUKES - NO SCOTLAND = NO TRIDENT

UK nuclear weapons are at Faslane and Coulport in Scotland. Westminster's own Defence Committee said:

"identifying and recreating a suitable base to replace Faslane and Coulport would be highly problematic, very expensive and fraught with political difficulties."

"Few if any alternative options appear to exist"

"Scottish opposition to Trident remaining at Faslane will cause near insurmountable difficulties. It would be virtually impossible to move"

RUSI estimate: £3.5bn to move to Plymouth - and still nowhere suitable.

If Scotland says No Nukes, UK has to disarm. Lose nukes = lose permanent seat on UN Security Council credibility. Lose US special relationship. That's why Washington wants Westminster to say No.

REASON 3: POWER - IF SCOTLAND GOES, BRITAIN ENDS

Scotland is 8% of population, 32% of landmass. If Scotland votes Yes, Wales is next, then Northern Ireland border poll under Good Friday Agreement.

UK becomes England. That's not scaremongering - that's geography

Legal cover

Scotland Act 1998: Union reserved • Section 30 order: Westminster can grant but refuses - "once in a generation" • Supreme Court 23 Nov 2022: "Scottish Parliament does not have the power to legislate for a referendum" When Parliament asks for referendum based on 2021 mandate and Westminster uses legal powers to refuse, Union changes from consent to law.

WESTMINSTER DOESN'T SAY NO TO SCOTLAND - IT SAYS NO TO ITS OWN END.

That's why they say No.

WHY WOULD WESTMINSTER EVER AGREE? SELF-PRESERVATION.

1. To save the Union itself.

2. To solve the money argument.

3. To solve the West Lothian Question

WHY WOULD WESTMINSTER EVER AGREE? SELF-PRESERVATION.

1. To save the Union itself.

2. To solve the money argument.

3. To solve the West Lothian Question.

WHAT IS THE WEST LOTHIAN QUESTION?

Named after our own area. Coined in 1977 by Tam Dalyell, MP for West Lothian, which includes Bathgate.

Why can a Scottish MP at Westminster vote on English schools and hospitals, but an English MP cannot vote on Scottish schools and hospitals because they are devolved to Holyrood? EVEL was tried 2015-2021 and scrapped. Under Full Devo-Max, the question is finally answered.

4. To reduce management time.

5. To keep strategic assets - Faslane, NATO, UN Security Council status.

6. Economic stability - No currency split, no hard border.

WHY THEY HAVEN'T AGREED SO FAR:

Because if you control everything except foreign affairs, you are basically independent - why would voters stop there?

For Westminster, Devo-Max is the price of keeping the UK. For Scotland, Devo-Max is the proof we can run everything ourselves - and the stepping stone they are terrified of.

We raise it, we keep it, we run it. From Bathgate to Lerwick.

I'm done waiting for permission that never comes. Let's take the power. Let's take the money. Let's run our own country - now.
